Kompas — Terms of Use
Last updated: 30 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Kompas when you use the Kompas app or website. We wrote them to be read by a sailor and their parent. By making an account you accept them; if you do not, please do not use Kompas.
1. Who we are
Kompas is run by Dünya Cengiz, a sole proprietorship registered in Türkiye, Küçükbakkalköy Mah. Dereboyu Cad. R5 Blok No: 3A, Flat 48, Ataşehir, İstanbul, Türkiye. Contact: dunyacengiz@gmail.com.
How we handle your personal data is in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
2. What Kompas is
Kompas helps sailors, crews and coaches track how sailing skills develop: scores, sessions, plans, equipment, and the wheel that shows them. Coaches can run squads and score their sailors; people who race one boat can share one crew wheel.
Kompas is a training notebook, not safety equipment. It is not a navigation aid, a weather service or a way to call for rescue. The on-the-water features (the display, recording a sail, the SOS button that tells your coach) depend on your phone, its battery and a mobile signal, and can fail without warning. In danger, call 158 (Coast Guard) or 112. You and the person in charge of your boat stay responsible for your safety, and for following the racing rules and the instructions of your club and race officials.
3. Your account
- You can sign up with an email and password, or with Google or Apple. Keep your sign-in to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. We recommend turning on two-step verification (Settings → Privacy and account).
- Under 18: a parent or guardian must agree before you make an account.
- Give a real first name: your coach and squad-mates see it.
- One person, one account. Coach is not a separate account: you coach inside a squad.
4. Squads, crews and coaches
- When you join a squad, its coaches can see and change your scores; a coach's score is the number on your wheel until someone scores again. You are told when this happens. Leave the squad and their access ends at once.
- A crew shares one wheel. Everyone in a crew is equal and can score it; anyone leaving keeps a read-only copy.
- What you write about other people (notes, playbook cards, messages) must be fair and respectful. Coaches must use what they see only to coach.
5. Your content
What you put into Kompas (scores, notes, logs, photos, plans) stays yours. You let us store, copy and show it only as far as needed to run Kompas for you and the people you share it with (your squad, your crew, friends you choose). We do not sell it and do not use it for advertising.
You can export your history and delete your account at any time (§8).
6. Things you must not do
- Use someone else's account, or try to see data Kompas does not show you.
- Harass, threaten or embarrass anyone, or post anything unlawful.
- Upload content you have no right to share, or anything harmful (malware).
- Copy, resell or take apart the app or the training content beyond what the law allows, or overload it with automated requests.
We may block content or suspend an account that breaks these rules, and will tell you why unless the law or someone's safety prevents it.
7. Price and subscription
- During the pilot, Kompas is free. Accounts made before launch are free until 1 January 2027, and we will tell you in the app well before that changes.
- After the pilot, Kompas has two plans, monthly and yearly, bought in the App Store or Google Play. The prices are shown in the app before you pay. The first month is free, without a card.
- Payment, renewal and cancellation go through Apple or Google under their terms. A plan renews until you cancel it in your store account; cancelling stops the next renewal.
- If your subscription ends, nothing is deleted. You can always see your own history; adding new scores and plans needs an active plan.
- Your rights as a consumer under Turkish law (Law No. 6502) are not limited by these terms.
8. Ending your account
You can delete your account inside the app (Settings → Privacy and account → Delete my account) or follow our deletion page. Deleting it removes your data from our server as the Privacy Policy describes; it cannot be undone. A coach who owns a squad with other people in it hands the squad over first.
We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or when the law requires it. If we ever stop running Kompas, we will tell you in advance and give you time to export your history.
9. Availability
Kompas works offline first and syncs when it can. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. Training content (the skills for each boat class) is written with care from class rules and coaching practice, but it is guidance, not a guarantee of results.
10. Liability
We are responsible for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and in every case the law does not let us exclude. Otherwise, as far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, for decisions made on the water, or for results in training or racing. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer.
11. Changes
We may change these terms when Kompas changes or the law requires it. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using Kompas and delete your account.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. Please write to dunyacengiz@gmail.com first; most things are quickest sorted that way. If you are a consumer, you can also apply to the consumer arbitration committees or consumer courts, within the limits set each year by the Ministry of Trade.
